So, I got this book in a kids meal at Taco Bell last week. First of all, it's a random [at best] attempt to teach kids tolerance AND Spanish. It's just a strange little book in general. But I could NOT stop laughing when I read the following:
I don't know why I can't get these pages any bigger - it's totally clear in my scan. Sorry. But what it says, in case you can't read it is:
"Abdul was from India, and he wore a turban. Yao was from China and he didn't speak English very well. And Sunshine, well, Sunshine was from California, so she was really different."
Yes, the word "really" is actually italicized.
What the????!!!!
I've taught my children not to be prejudiced toward Californians. Hopefully, they haven't been brainwashed already. It's just really unfair how Californians have been treated... The author probably just knows one too many "different" people from the Golden State. I'll bet an authentic Mexican establishment like Taco Bell is really proud of that message.
Hope you enjoyed the book as much as I did.
